I have always tried to go into different types of music. I always believed that music is unique, and organizing it in different types makes us realize how huge it is, and how it contributes to our good living.
During my whole career, I tried different ways to live deeply my knowledge about. Music. I looked for different styles, with many sources. But certainly, rock music was my best expression. However, I never could deny my Brazilian and Latin origin. Even playing rock music, I always tried to play my natural music, the one that is in my genetics, the Brazilian music with all its rhythms, melodies and harmonies developed in 500 years of history and mixture of DNAs and ethnics.
I coexisted several times with musicians of other styles, trying to find the ‘middle point’, where I could show my identification with rock, but also to clearly show my admiration for music from other cultures. Another interesting thing I find in music is the basic possibility to change moments of musical energy with other people. Fluid energies that occur in the improvisations, spontaneous creations of rhythms, melodies, subjects, solos, dynamics, nuances, tones, etc. The ordinary mistakes of one who plays with the heart looking for expressing the purest musicality that comes from the infinite that we feel the real strength of music.
Universo Inverso: This work is the result of all this longing and desire.
Longing to create, to touch and to live a music that always I listened, I practiced and I dreamed to be capable to execute. An art that is not dominated of one day for another one and that I needed much devotion and persistence to end up at this waited moment to show people to them and to leave my mark, though small, in the enormous world of the musical art.
The thing that really stimulates me in this kind of job is the interaction between musical ethnics and human DNAs. Each one has their story, their longings, their abilities and experiences Universo Inverso offers this entire concept in art-music form. It is the result of four friends, who respect each other and adore their respective works, with a light, untied, organic, real and authentic climate.
This workmanship was recorded at live in a studio in Sao Paulo, to reproduce all momentarily the created musical soul for this new generation of musicians whom they look to ahead take the flag of spontaneous and true Brazilian music.
In this work, I had the great honor to divide my songs with the pianist and cellist Yaniel Matos. Taking part Cuban musicians, classical formation and huge experience with Cuban and Brazilian artists, Yaniel is a great friend and partner who always encouraged me to show my other musical style, hiding in my rock compositions. In “Universo Inverso” he shows all of you ability, musicality and complete domain of piano in beautiful compositions and creative solos which demonstrate their Latin-Caribbean nature.
In the drums Cuca Teixeira, one of the most important drummers in Sao Paulo who represents the very Brazilian and Latin rhythms playing with his heart, musicality, modernism and precision. Respecting breaks and silence of each composition and creating a rhythmic base which results a rich performance of all.
Carlinhos Noronha, a great bass player in Sao Paulo, that recorded works with greatest musicians of samba and MPB, composed with Cuca a genius base line that put together the guitar and piano with the Latin-Brazilian rhythm and swing.
There are no words to describe the sensation to play with musician of so great wealth, elegance and musical charisma.
An Inverse Universe to a rock player maybe, but yes, certainly an universe created to show the integration between the free spirit of jazz from Cuba, Brazil, modernism from rock and sons of Jimmy Hendrix, Tom Jobim, Rubem Gonzales, Miles Davis, Mario de Andrade and many others. Without fear, just my nature, after all, we have always to try to find it.
